Sport forms a very important part of our school culture here In Scoil Mhuire Lacken. We are extremely lucky to have links with our local GAA Club and to have volunteers from the club to help out in coaching the children each week. Many thanks to Brian Mc Kiernan who visits our school every Thursday to coach us in GAA skills and to Helena Brady who coaches third to sixth class every Friday in Camogie/Hurling.
Sport is a vital component of providing positivity in mental health and provides an escapism from the curricular areas of Primary School and develops children Socially, Emotionally, Educationally and Physically. . Here in the school we support and provide sport in three areas:
(1) Physical Education- in terms of our Primary School Curriculum
(2) Extra- Curricular Activities e.g Biking to School, Daily Mile, GAA 5 Star flag, Basketball
(3) Encouragement to participate in local GAA activities.
