In class we are learning about Antarctica so we decided we would do some art based on Antarctica. First we picked a picture of Antarctica on the I pad and then put it on the green screen and took a picture with us in it. Then we printed it out on a small piece of paper then stuck it on an A4 sized piece of paper.
in class, we learned all about Tom Crean and his voyages to the South Pole. Although he never reached the South Pole he will always be remembered around the world for his bavery, compassion, determination and his sense of adventure at being one of the first people to journey to the Antartica and try and reach the South Pole.
In class we are learning about Antarctica . Antarctica is the 5th largest continent in the world.The highest mountain range in Antarctica is the Transantarctic Mountains which splits Antarctica into east and west Antarctica.The highest peak in Antarctica is Vinson Massif. The lowest peak in Antarctica is Bentley Subglacial Trench. The 2 biggest ice shelves in Antarctica is the Ronne Filchner ice shelf and the Ross ice shelf.

This week in 5th and 6th class we were learning about 3D shapes in maths. We had to name the shapes, label the edges, vertices and then we had to name the shapes they were made out of. We also had to name them in the environment. We then got to make shapes using play dough and cocktail sticks. We really enjoyed this topic in maths. Here are some pictures.
This week 5th class learned about the Native Americans. We learned that 1. The buffalo was very important to the Native Americans as they were hunted for food,clothing,warmth and their homes (teepees) 2. They loved art! In class we made Native American shields with bright colours. Here is a picture of some.
Today we had a very special visit from Daniel who has worked in Antartctica for the last few years in air navigation. Daniel showed us a wonderful slideshow of the conditions in Antarctica. Daniel also showed us a short video of the wildlife and topography of Antartica. We really enjoyed chatting to Daniel and he answered all of our questions we had for him about Antarctica. This visit , is part of our Minecraft project we are doing on Antarctica and Tom Crean which we will present in the RDS on Saturday June 17th.
We are delighted to reorganise that we have been successful in our Green School application for our third flag on the theme of Water. We would like to thank everyone involved and all the students who worked so hard. A special,thanks to our Green school Committee and Ms McKiernan for all their hard work. We shall be having a flag raising ceremony in June. We will keep You posted.
