We had a very busy December in Scoil Mhuire. I hope you all enjoyed our Christmas show. We also managed to get lots of art done in December. Here are some pictures of the displays in the hallway.
We made snowglobes by painting paper plates blue and decorating them with fake snow and glitter and then everyone stuck in their own picture. When they were finished we covered them with clingfilm and they were ready for display!
We also made our own Elfs. Everyone created their own elf body using coloured card and then stuck their own picture on the body.
As part of our study on procedural writing we wrote a procedure on how to build a snowman. Each child then created their own snowman with card and they were ready for display!
While learning about 3D shapes we used marshmallows and toothpicks to construct our own 3D shapes. The class worked together in pairs and everyone created a range of shapes including cubes, cuboids, triangular prisms and square based pyramids! It was lots of fun but the whole class found it very difficult not to eat the marshmallows!!! 🙈
Can you name any of the shapes we made?
This week Ollie has been up to more naughtiness around our classroom. We found him hanging from our projector, writing a naughty or nice list on the whiteboard! We also found him playing with playdough. On Wednesday he was feeling a bit homesick and we found him hanging out by our world map. We also caught him racing on the animals from our crib!!!
Unfortunately our fun with Ollie had to end. He left us a note and we bid him farewell when we left for our school holidays! We hope you come back again next year Ollie.
As part of our study of 2d shapes in maths, we went out into the yard to find examples of different shapes in the environment. We had loads of fun identifying and taking pictures of examples of each shape. We worked in pairs to find some very interesting examples of circles, squares, rectangles, hexagons and octagons around the school. Here are some pictures of us on our trail...
On Friday Seán brought in a lovely colourful dinosaur teddy for show and tell. Seán has had this teddy since Junior Infants and it turns out it was given to him by Mathew!!
The teddy is very precious to Seán and is a lovely keepsake to have.

Last Wednesday morning Third and Fourth Class got a pleasant surprise when Ms. Heaney closed the door and we discovered we had an elf on the shelf behind it!!! Well done to Brianna for spotting him first and alerting the rest of us. After much debate, we settled on the name Ollie for our elf. Each morning he is in a different place and we're having great fun trying to find him. Check back for weekly updates on Ollie's antics in 3rd and 4th class.
This week in 3rd and 4th class we have been learning how to use scratch in the steam room and as part of our mathematics class. Everybody got a chance to create their own story, game or animation which they presented to the class when they were done. Here are some pictures of our creations!!

Our Elf Ollie is a very naughty elf and has been creating havoc in our classroom. We're having great fun finding him each morning and discovering what kind of naughtiness he has been up to while we were gone! On Tuesday morning we found him having a race with Barbie and another little friend!
On Wednesday morning we discovered Ollie had made a zipline across our classroom.
On Thursday Ollie had thrown a party for his friends on Miss Heaney's desk! They look like they had great fun!!
On Friday morning we found Ollie sitting on Santa's shoulder. He had a mischievous look on his face and rightly so as we discovered he had been using the school photocopier on Thursday night! We found photocopies of Ollie and his friend Barbie thrown around our classroom!
As if that wasn't enough, Ollie got up to more mischief when we went for PE!! When we came back in we discovered the naughty Elf had toilet papered our classroom and left us a note on the whiteboard!!
